I have been writing for so long now that it is hard to remember where I started, but writing does start somewhere—it starts with a daydream.
Daydreaming is awesome.
There is something wonderfully fresh about a new daydream. When the blank space opens up to allow the industry of imagination to begin. The ideas that take hold can go in many directions.
That’s OK.
When it starts you have no preconceived ideas or constraints.
You know it’s the one
Life is full of daydreams.
Some are better than others. Some are worthy of a second look.
You know it’s the one when your conscious and subconscious keep coming back for another visit.
You explore it, you examine it. After a while you just know it’s right.
You have to start somewhere
When you find a new story, it is so hard to know where to begin.
Do you plan? Plough right in? Decide the end? Character profiles?
Aaaarrrhhhh!
Finding your flow.
After a while you stop worrying about the plan, the beginning, the ending, your characters, because they all just sort themselves out.
You strap in, get ready, and prepare to enjoy the ride.
A lovely post Miss Cromarty.

For a long time in had no idea that some writers planned what they were going to write.
When I did learn that, my reaction was, “Ew. That doesn’t sound like fun.” So, I don’t plan (well, maybe a little bit.)

Yes I hate planning, but after I have finished playing with the idea a little planning does help. At least I consciously know I’m ignoring my original idea then 😉

Thank you for this. Even though I’m writing non-fiction now, I have some fiction rattling around in my head and this helps with my concern about how to let it out.
Also, I love the picture at the top of this post. I’ve been in several stores over the past 2 weeks and, in most cases, I walked out with at least one new blank notebook. You’d almost think my subconscious was telling me to get ready for some major quantity of writing, right?
Or maybe I just have always had a thing for office supplies.
But maybe that’s because I’ve been a writer longer than I realized, so I’ve been stocking up?

I think your subconscious is definitely trying to tell you something 🙂 I have scribbled down hundreds of story bits. Sometimes an idea only, sometimes a whole chapter, sometimes a lot more. Sounds like you are about to have a little fun with those blank notebooks 😉
