I have never been one for new years resolutions, for making plans, or setting goals, or any of those things that most people do every year on the 1st January.
I don’t do diets – too boring.
I don’t want to run a marathon – too hard, jump out of a plane – too scary, or to ‘find myself’ in Tibet. I have always been at heart a bit of a drifter, and a lot of a procrastinator, and yet at the same time I have never let go of my dream to publish a book.
I spend anywhere up to 20 hours a week working towards this dream and have done so for nearly 20 years. For far too many of those years I never actually committed to converting that dream into a reality…I am the living embodiment of George McFly out of back to the future.
On 1st January 2013, I had been getting ready to watch the ball drop in Times Square, and like every other year I never set myself a goal.
The 1st January 2014 was a little quieter, and I had a little more time to reflect. This time, everything changed because I set myself a goal – just one – to publish a book.
It took me a lot longer to get there than I ever expected, but I’m always going to look back on that day and be thankful and grateful that I changed my mindset.
I have about 50 books as well. Problem is about 48 of them are still in my head waiting to get on paper. Of the other two my goal is to publish one this year! I love your blog!

Hi Georgina, thanks for stopping by my blog and introducing yourself. Reading your about page resonates strongly with me – my story is fairly similar in that I’ve been writing for 20 years, but never did anything about it until a year ago when I started my blog. It’s amazing how one simple decision can change the direction of your life. Look forward to following your journey 🙂
Bianca.

This resonates with me. I wrote for 20+ years and never published anything. Then 3 years ago I decided it was now or never. I published THE EMPIRE OF THE ZON in 2013 and am working on the sequel. It is therapeutic, makes me happier just to put my stories on paper. I would love comments and feedback!

You will get there! Just keep plucking away! I am pretty much in the same situation as you. To keep up my motivation I have a few short stories published here and there (though that can take time as well).
