I have never been one for new years resolutions, for making plans, or setting goals, or any of those things that most people do every year on the 1st January.

I don’t do diets – too boring.

I don’t want to run a marathon – too hard, jump out of a plane – too scary, or to ‘find myself’ in Tibet. I have always been at heart a bit of a drifter, and a lot of a procrastinator, and yet at the same time I have never let go of my dream to publish a book.

I spend anywhere up to 20 hours a week working towards this dream and have done so for nearly 20 years. For far too many of those years I never actually committed to converting that dream into a reality…I am the living embodiment of George McFly out of back to the future.

On 1st January 2013, I had been getting ready to watch the ball drop in Times Square, and like every other year I never set myself a goal.

The 1st January 2014 was a little quieter, and I had a little more time to reflect. This time, everything changed because I set myself a goal – just one – to publish a book.

It took me a lot longer to get there than I ever expected, but I’m always going to look back on that day and be thankful and grateful that I changed my mindset.

  1. Hi Georgina, thanks for stopping by my blog and introducing yourself. Reading your about page resonates strongly with me – my story is fairly similar in that I’ve been writing for 20 years, but never did anything about it until a year ago when I started my blog. It’s amazing how one simple decision can change the direction of your life. Look forward to following your journey 🙂
    Bianca.

    1. Great to meet you Bianca. It is such a great feeling when you decide to take action on your dream instead of just dreaming! And likewise, looking forward to following your blog 🙂

  2. Hey, discovered you through twitter.
I also love writing but my problem is that I have several book ideas in the making…some in my mind and some on actual paper. Good luck on your writing journey. Looking forward to exploring more of your blog/writings. 🙂

  3. You will get there! Just keep plucking away! I am pretty much in the same situation as you. To keep up my motivation I have a few short stories published here and there (though that can take time as well).

I can completely relate to the sheer love of writing, although I haven’t been doing it for quite as long as you have! I think it’s fantastic that you have decided to push yourself to publish one of your books and I’m looking forward to following you on your journey 🙂 Best of luck!
